A Passerelle University Diploma (DU) allows asylum seekers, beneficiaries of subsidiary or temporary protection, refugees and stateless persons to have a better level of French in order to study in France.

This DU Passerelle - Students in Exile training program offers:

  • French lessons,
  • Cultural and sporting activities,
  • Support for building an academic and professional project in France...
The course lasts one academic year (2 semesters), from September to December and then from January to May.

There are approximately 40 similar programs in France. This page presents the program offered by Lumière University Lyon 2 at the International Centre for French Studies (CIEF).

Why is it interesting?

The DU Passerelle, reserved for students in exile from Lumière Lyon 2 University, offers 240 hours of French classes per semester.

You have 20 hours of classes per week, from September to December and/or from January to May.

You are taking exams to obtain a University Diploma.

If you are a beneficiary of international protection or a beneficiary of temporary protection and are under 35 years of age, you can receive financial assistance (scholarships based on social criteria or specific annual aid) every month and accommodation to complete the training.

During the training, you will discover the university in France: what it is to be a student, how courses and exams are organized, what diplomas and training exist, learn to take notes during classes and review your lessons outside of lectures make presentations, prepare for exams...

The French higher education system is complex.

During the training, professionals individually accompany each student to reflect on their academic and professional project, depending on their possibilities.

The professionals also help you write your CVs and cover letters, and register for the training courses that interest you.

  • administrative support...

You have access to different activities during the training:

  • cultural outings,
  • partnership with the Lumière film festival,
  • tandems with students,
  • partnership with the Nuits Sonores festival,
  • sports activities (tennis, swimming, horse riding...).

How to do it?

After submitting your application, if it is accepted, you will receive an email with an invitation for an interview and a selection test.
