What is it?

A Passerelle University Diploma (DU) allows asylum seekers, beneficiaries of subsidiary or temporary protection, refugees and stateless people, to start or resume academic studies in France.

This training offers:

  • French lessons,
  • Intercultural and sports workshops,
  • Support to continue your studies in France or to find a job after training...
The training lasts at least 1 semester: from September to December and from January to April.

There are around 40 similar training courses in France. This sheet presents the training at Bretagne Sud University (UBS).

> Find out more about the DU Passerelle: see the Réfugiés.info sheet.

Why is it interesting?

In this training, depending on the levels, there are between 232 and 256 hours of French lessons per semester .

You have classes and workshops between 20 and 22 hours per week, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the morning and from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the afternoon.

At the end of the training, you take exams to obtain a University Diploma.

If you are a beneficiary of international protection or temporary protection and you are under 35 years old, you can receive financial assistance (scholarship based on social criteria or specific annual aids) every month.

During the training, you will discover the university in France: what it is like to be a student, how courses and exams are organized, which diplomas and training exist, how to take notes during classes and review them outside the lectures, make presentations, prepare for exams…

The French higher education system is complex.

During the training, professionals individually support each student to think about their academic and professional career, according to their possibilities.

The professionals also help you write your CVs and cover letters, and register for the training courses that interest you.

  • Individual and collective support: orientation assessment, CV writing, creation of a network, computer classes, etc.
  • Creation of an individual file with study wishes and objectives to achieve.
  • Interview with the teacher and manager before entering another training at Bretagne Sud University.

You have access to different activities:

  • cultural activities (guided tours of Lorient city and its surroundings, theater, visits to monuments, visit to the harbor of Lorient, visits to the Flore Submarine, etc.).
  • sports activities (football, basketball, and all sports offered by the university's Sports Service).

How to do it?

After submitting the application, if your file is accepted, you will receive an email with an invitation for a level test and an interview.
