Learn French at university in Caen

A Passerelle University Diploma (DU) allows asylum seekers, beneficiaries of subsidiary or temporary protection, refugees and stateless persons, to start or resume studies academics in France.

This training offers:

  • French courses,
  • English classes,
  • Cultural workshops,
  • Support to continue your studies in France or to find a job after training...
The training lasts a minimum of one semester (4 months): from September to December or from January to May.

There are around 40 similar training courses in France. This sheet presents the training at the University of Caen.

Why is it interesting?

This course includes 276 hours of French lessons. You will have 23 hours of classes per week, for 12 weeks per semester. Classes may take place Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

You will take exams at the end of each semester to obtain a University Diploma.

It is possible to take the DELF/TCF at the end of the training.

If you are a beneficiary of international protection or a beneficiary of temporary protection and are under 35 years of age, you can receive financial assistance (scholarships based on social criteria or specific annual aid) every month and accommodation to complete the training.

During the training, you will discover university in France: what it is to be a student, how the courses and exams are organized, what diplomas and training exist, learn to take notes during the courses and revise outside of the courses, make presentations, prepare for exams...

The French higher education system is complex.

During the training, you will be able to receive support to reflect on your academic and professional project, depending on the possibilities.

Professionals also help you write your CVs and cover letters, and register for the courses that interest you.

This training program also offers:

  • a weekly drop-in session for administrative and academic support,
  • workshops presenting the different higher education pathways in France,
  • workshops to help users get started with the various guidance platforms (Parcoursup, Trouver Mon Master, E-Candidat, etc.) and to assist with applications
  • participation in student fairs and career guidance fairs, etc.

You will have access to various activities during this training:

  • participation in the Normandy for Peace forum
  • exhibition visits
  • cinema outings
  • visits to tourist sites in Normandy,
  • university sports activities
  • improvisation theatre workshops
  • participation in the creation of various projects (creation of a photo exhibition, creation of a radio program, creation and promotion of a concert, development of a world menu for a solidarity meal)
