Where is it?
Training to become an Interpreter Mediator
What is it?
The university diploma (DU) Dialogues – Mediation, interpreting and migration:
- prepares for interpreting and mediation professions in supporting people affected by migration
- provides knowledge in the social, health, asylum and legal fields
- develops skills on professional posture and French level
- explains how to use interculturality in the practice of interpreter mediator to resolve complex situations and misunderstandings (linguistic, cultural, religious, gender, representations, etc.).
It lasts 10 months, from October to July.
There are 165 hours of lessons in total, 3 days per month (Friday - Saturday).
This training is aimed at several profiles:
- active interpreters, qualified or not, working in the field of interpreting in social, medical or legal contexts
- volunteer interpreters or mediators, working in different structures or associations
- professionals from social and medical structures who provide interpreting or mediation
- people who have obtained statutory refugee status, speaking one or more foreign languages, working as interpreters or mediators (volunteers or professionals)
- new arrivals (in France for less than 5 years), speaking one or more foreign languages, without specific professional experience
- people looking for work.
Why is it interesting?
The cost of training can be covered by a scholarship.
- Module 1: migratory trajectories, professional postures, mediation practices
- Module 2: mental health, somatic health
- Module 3: social, legal
- Module 4: interpretation techniques, internship
You can choose 3 to 4 modules.
If you need to improve your French (written and spoken), it is possible to have additional training in French as a foreign language before doing the main training, or at the same time.

- your level of French.
You must also specify whether you wish to do the full course (4 modules) or the optional course (3 modules), and whether you wish to add French as a foreign language courses.
