Register at the job centre (Pôle Emploi)

What is it?

Pôle Emploi can help you find a job or (paid) vocational training to learn a new trade and/or acquire new skills.

It is a public service that guides and advises you.

Pôle Emploi can also refer you to a training course or to a language training centre to improve your language skills.

Good to know: you can register with Pôle Emploi as soon as you receive the receipt confirming the recognition of international protection.

Good to know: this appointment is compulsory.

Once registered with Pôle Emploi, you will obtain your Pôle Emploi identifier (which is different from the identifier you used to connect to the site). This is a number you have to keep. You will be asked for it for certain procedures or actions related to your applications.

During your registration, you will have chosen a date for your first appointment.

You will receive an invitation letter.

Good to know: this appointment is compulsory (and very important).

If you are not available for the appointment, you must inform Pôle Emploi by telephone or directly at the branch.

Documents to bring to your appointment:

Your récépissé (receipt) or residence permit

Your health insurance card or PUMA/CSS certificate

A bank statement (RIB) if you have one

A Curriculum Vitae (CV) if you have one (it is strongly advised to prepare one)

During the appointment, the counsellor will ask you questions about your identity, your experience and your job search. With this information, he will build your "Personalised Access to Employment Project" (PPAE), i.e. your professional project and your various steps until your next appointment. He will suggest solutions adapted to your situation.

Good to know: this appointment is not a test or an examination. There is no need to worry: the counsellor only wants to learn more about you and your career plan.

After registering, you will have access to your profile and documents on your Pôle Emploi space on the internet (on smartphone or computer).

  • Go to the site
  • Click on "Login"
  • Click on "Candidate"
  • Enter your username then your password (which you will have previously chosen during registration), then click on "Connect".

You then access your Pôle Emploi space:

  • In "Ma recherche d'emploi" ("My job search"), you will find your applications as well as your training course — if you have one.
  • In "Mon dossier demandeur d'emploi" ("My job seeker 's file"), you will find "Mes échanges avec Pôle Emploi" ("My exchanges with Pôle Emploi"): this is where you will find the contact of your Pôle Emploi advisor. This is also where you can send a document to Pôle Emploi.

And after?

Update your situation every month

After your registration, you have to "update" your situation every month with Pôle Emploi.

Updating means confirming that you are still looking for a job — or declaring a new job.

You can do this on the website or on the mobile application.

Good to know: updating is compulsory for all Pôle Emploi beneficiaries and must be done before the 15th of each month, in order to remain registered.

Talk to your advisor regularly

After your first meeting with your advisor, you will be summoned by letter or email for other meetings on a regular basis.

Good to know: all appointments are compulsory.

If you are not available, you must tell Pôle emploi as soon as possible to be able to change the date of your appointment.

You can also request a meeting directly with your advisor if you have questions.

If you've ever been struck off (you didn't go to an appointment)

You will be "struck off" if:

  • You did not go to an appointment and do not have a valid justification
  • You did not attend compulsory training
  • You did not respond to requests from Pôle Emploi

You will receive a letter explaining the reason for your being struck off.

You can reply to justify yourself — by mail or by making an appointment with your advisor.

Good to know: being struck off means you no longer have access to Pôle Emploi services and no longer receiving your financial assistance.

You may be struck off any time between 15 days and 12 months depending on the reason.

Re-registration with Pôle Emploi depends on how long you have been struck off:

  • If you have been struck off between 15 days and 6 months, the procedure is simplified. It corresponds to a classic re-registration.
  • If you have been struck off for more than 6 months, you must request an appointment with an advisor.

If you have unsubscribed (i.e you forgot to update your situation)

You have unsubscribed if:

  • You forgot to update your situation before the 15th of the month.
  • The residence permit or receipt you provided has expired and you have not provided the new card or receipt.

You are no longer registered as a "job seeker" — you will then receive a letter explaining your new situation.

To re-register, go to:

  • Your personal space on the site
  • A Pôle Emploi agency
  • Call 39 49
