Where is it?

Become a Medical Regulatory Assistant in France

Updated on il y a un mois

What is it?

Working in a Samu-Centre 15 call center, the medical regulation assistant manages medical emergency calls. They must listen to and analyze each call and rank those through precise questioning.

Once the request has been processed, they contact the hospital service, the attending physician or the fire brigade as necessary. They are responsible for collecting the first aid reports and informing the reception facilities of the patient's imminent arrival.

This work requires a good level of French (minimum B2), because you have to master basic medical vocabulary.

To become a Medical Regulation Assistant (MRA), you must obtain the Medical Regulation Diploma (baccalaureate level). This is an 11-month training course with several internship periods. Eligibility is based on your profile and interview. It is possible to join the training through the traditional route or through an apprenticeship. The training is accessible after the baccalaureate, or with 3 years of professional activity in France, or through VAE (Validation of Acquired Experience).

The training takes place in a CFARM (training center for medical regulation assistants). The training lasts a total of 1470 hours, including 21 weeks in school and 21 weeks of internship.

How to do it?

The candidate must have obtained:

  • the baccalaureate,
  • OR a level-4 French diploma ,
  • OR a certificate of equivalence for a foreign diploma (recognition of foreign diplomas is done with ENIC-NARIC France ).

You must fill in the registration form and send it to the relevant CFARM (pay attention to the admission schedule).

If the candidate passes the first stage, he/she will receive a call for the exam. The exam is an oral interview where the candidate will be questioned about his/her motivations.

Documents requested for the file (non-exhaustive list, to be checked with the relevant CFARM):

  • Photocopy of identity card
  • Resume
  • Cover letter
  • Identity photo
  • Photocopy of latest diploma or certificate
  • Language level certificate (level to be checked with CFARM)
  • Application fees (to be checked with CFARM)...

If the candidate is accepted, he/she will be contacted to finalize his/her registration.

Candidates who do not have a baccalaureate or a certificate of equivalence of a level 4 diploma must provide proof of contribution to the French system for a full-time professional activity of at least 3 years.

The application process remains the same for the people with a bachelor's degree or equivalent diploma.

If you want to obtain this diploma as part of continuing education, you must find out which CFARMs accept this process.
Continuing education is available to employed professionals and job seekers in order to improve their skills or to acquire new professional knowledge.

Some CFARMs accept partial or total validation of training with the validation of acquired skills (VAE) procedure.

You must complete Cerfa document no. 12818*02 and attach the supporting documents that you will send to the Certification body.

The details of the procedure and the necessary documents are displayed on each CFARM concerned.

VAE is a complex process. To find out if VAE is well suited to your path and to be supported throughout the process, it is recommended to have personalized follow-up with “Expérience sans frontières” , which supports refugees with international experiences.
Some healthcare professions (nursing assistant, childcare assistant, ambulance driver) benefit from training exemptions.
Contact your CFARM and find out how to showcase your experience.

What happens next?

There are registration fees for the tests and tuition fees. There are several actors who can finance your training such as:

  • France Travail (formerly Pôle Emploi),
  • CPF account,
  • The General Directorate of Health Care Provision,
  • The Region,
  • The Ministry of Health.

Contact your CFARM to find out the steps to follow.

There are also various financial aids available during your studies. You can consult your Région and CampusBourseFrance for further assistance.

The Medical Regulation Assistant works in a Samu-Centre 15 call center. You can apply on job search sites or with the Samu and hospitals.

The MRA is a category B hospital public service employee. Their monthly salary starts at €1,836 gross.

The MRA has the opportunity to get promoted as a medical call center supervisor or MRA coordinator.

MRA certification provides training exemptions to access other professions such as nursing assistant, childcare assistant or ambulance driver.
