What is it?

The health pass is a control system put in place to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic. It proves that the person presenting it is not sick with the virus. It takes the form of a QR Code (a barcode) and can be presented in paper or digital version.

Attention, since March 14, 2022, the vaccination pass and the health pass are no longer compulsory in most places where they were necessary (restaurants, bars, places of leisure, etc.).
However, the health pass is still required to access health and medico-social establishments (hospitals, nursing homes, etc.).

To obtain the health pass, there are three ways (only one of these 3 is enough):

  • have a valid vaccination certificate,
  • have a positive PCR test dating back at least 11 days and less than 6 months,
  • have a negative test within 24 hours.
The health pass is free and may be required from the age of 12.

It is valid in all countries of the European Union and allows you to travel freely in Europe. In France, it allows you to access certain places where the pass is required.

Since March 14, 2022, the health pass is required:

  • In health and medico-social establishments (hospitals, nursing homes, etc.) for people accompanying or visiting people accommodated in these services and establishments. Also, people who have scheduled treatment at the hospital must have a health pass, unless otherwise decided by the head of department. This obligation is obviously waived in any emergency situation;
  • When crossing borders as part of trips to France;
  • In certain overseas territories, where the health or vaccination pass has been extended.
Find all the updated information on the health pass on the government website.

How to do it?

Vaccinated people can obtain a definitive health pass thanks to their vaccination certificate. The pass will be given to them once their vaccination is complete .

For the certificate to be valid , you must:

  • have received your second injection at least 7 days ago for the two-dose vaccines (Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna),
  • have received your single injection at least 4 weeks ago for the Janssen vaccine.
  • have received your single injection at least 7 days ago for people who have already been sick with COVID-19.
You can present the pass in paper format (with your vaccination certificate) or digitally, via the TousAntiCovid application.

To obtain your vaccination certificate in digital format, you can go to the dedicated Health Insurance page. You can access it by connecting via France Connect or via your Ameli account. You can then download the certificate in PDF format.

It is also possible to go to your doctor or pharmacist, who will be able to print your certificate in paper format.

In order for your vaccination certificate to remain valid for the health pass, you must take a booster dose (see step 2 in the "What happens next?" section).

If you had COVID-19 less than 6 months ago, you automatically get the health pass.

You must then present the QR code of your positive PCR test, which must be more than 11 days old (when you are no longer contagious) and less than 6 months old.

A positive antigen test is not valid. You need a PCR test.

You can then import your positive PCR test into the TousAntiCovid application.

Beyond six months after infection, you must have been vaccinated or have a recent negative test to keep your health pass.

If you have not had COVID-19 and are not vaccinated, you can obtain your health pass with a negative PCR or antigen test.

Please note, it must be less than 24 hours old to access establishments in France and less than 72 hours to cross borders if it is a PCR and less than 48 hours for an antigen test (travel to Corsica, communities in overseas and the European Union).

Since October 15, 2021, PCR tests and antigen tests are no longer free for unvaccinated adults (except for medical reasons). Self-tests are not allowed.

A paper document that proves you are negative is given to you when your test result is known. It takes a few tens of minutes for an antigen test, for example in a pharmacy, and a few hours for a PCR test in the laboratory.

You will also receive an email and an SMS with a connection link to retrieve your test certificate online on the SI-DEP portal . You can then import your certificate into the TousAntiCovid application.

What happens next?

Vaccination certificates (available on ameli.fr ) and test certificates (available on si-dep.gouv ) are now harmonized in European format. Your health pass is therefore valid in all countries of the European Union and allows you to travel freely.

Please note, it takes 14 days after your vaccination for it to be considered complete (and not 7 days as in France) for two-dose vaccines (Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna) and people who have already had the Covid-19.

You can present your health pass in paper or digital format, via the TousAntiCovid application.

The vaccination pass can be requested in addition to the health pass for certain destinations. We advise you to carefully check the regulations in force from France concerning your country of destination as well as the regulations in this country on diplomatie.gouv.fr

A few months after your last injection, the effectiveness of the vaccine decreases. This is why a booster shot is now recommended. Since November 27, the vaccine booster has been open to all people 18 years of age and over, as early as three months after the last injection or the last infection with COVID-19.

This vaccination booster has consequences on the validity of your health pass:

  • From December 15, 2021 the health pass for people over 65 will no longer be active if the booster is not made within seven months of infection or after the last injection.
  • From January 15, 2022 the health pass will be invalid seven months after the last injection in the absence of a booster dose for all people over 18 years old.
  • From 15 February, 2022 the period of validity of the certificate of vaccination without a booster shot will be reduced to 4 months instead of 7 months.
Since March 2022, the fourth dose of the vaccine is open to immunocompromised people and people over 80 years of age who have received their booster dose more than three months ago.
